The Art of Craftsmanship

Welcome to Hidden Oaks, resplendently built to capture the essence of history coupled with modern convenience.  Tucked away behind the world-famous Claremont Resort and Spa, the properties at Hidden Oaks have lush greenery and gardens flanking the property and each structure flaunts fine craftsmanship.  Once an estate built by Carl Biedenbach in the 1920’s, this property has been renovated to include 4 detached dwellings, beckoning you to enter a world of craftsmanship, comfort and style.

Once a cottage to the main residence, this artfully crafted home has it all.  The detailing is reminiscent of an arts and crafts home with tons of charm.   Ceilings are peeked in the open floor plan design with French doors leading to an expansive deck.  A spiral stair case descends from the deck to the level yard, perfect for child’s plan or entertaining. The kitchen is equipped with high-end stainless appliances and a comfortable breakfast bar.  Three bedrooms, two baths and the laundry room make up the lower level.  The master suite has some detailing remaining from the original structure and is equipped with a large walk-in closet.  This level open to the fenced and lush garden.

Enjoy the sought-after location.  Close to Domingo Avenue shops and restaurants, Claremont Resort and Spa, regional parks and easy freeway access.  A beautiful place to call home, living under the Oaks.

WELCOME TO HIDDEN OAKS, BERKELEY, CA

Situated on the Oakland/Berkeley border, once known as the Biedenbach estate, Hidden Oaks enjoys a forested hillside setting which is city-close while remote in nature. It combines elements of a redwood canopy with a haven for deer, wild turkey and natural habitat.  Hidden Oaks is just minutes from the world-renowned University of California at Berkeley, as well as employment centers in Oakland and San Francisco.

Over the course of two years, working in his spare time and in the evening, Carl F. Biedenbach, built every inch of his home at 7287 Claremont Avenue.  Only the electrical wiring was done by outside labor in order to have the job approved by city building inspectors.  Everything else – excavating, foundations, stucco work, plastering, plumbing, woodwork, flooring and painting were done by Biedenbach.  The level site, high on a hillside with rock formations and several old oaks was carefully planned in relation to its setting.  The living room fireplace was made of huge stones from the Berkeley and Richmond hills.  SOURCE: A House Built with Two Hands b Zoe A. CLAREMONT-BERKELEY AREA

Claremont is the pinnacle of upscale California living.  Nestled in beautifully wooded hills just 12 miles from San Francisco, this historic area is dotted with parks, broad medians filled with redwood trees, hidden pathways and winding walking paths.

The neighborhood’s best-known landmark is the world-renowned Claremont Report and Spa.  A former private “castle” built by a successful gold prospector, the Claremont opened to the public in 1915 as a retreat for wealthy San Franciscans to escape from the fog for a day on the sunny side of the Bay.  This area still caters to those seeking the best in life.

Two upscale retail shopping areas serve local residents with specialty stores like Rick and Ann’s,  Ellington & French, Red Bird, Amphora Olive Oil & Vinegar, Peets, Claremont Florist, Fornee Bakery, and many more.

CLAREMONT DISTRICT

The celebrated Claremont real estate includes a range of architectural styles including English and shingled cottages and prairie spreads.  Custom-designed residences are equally as popular, with numerous updated, contemporary dwellings and magnificent Italian and Spanish period revivals to choose from.  The stately residences are often accompanied by wonderfully manicured gardens, adding even more allure to this picturesque area.

Convenient to shops, restaurants, and just a few minutes from the Elmwood and Rockridge.  These properties boast a Berkeley street address with lower Oakland taxes.  This property is a wake-up call to be your best self and to live your best life!

Hidden Oaks is located on the Berkeley/Oakland border and benefits from many wonderful offerings from both cities.  The water orientation provides panoramic Bay views and proximity to the Pacific Ocean.  Rising to the east are the scenic Oakland Hills, offering parks and recreation and breathtaking vistas of the entire Bay Area.

Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve is nestled in the Berkeley and Oakland hills behind the Claremont Hotel.  This scenic, 208-acre preserve protects two parcels of land located on both sides of upper Claremont Avenue.  The “jewel” of downtown Oakland, Lake Merritt, with its 122-acre Lakeside Park, offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities including sailing rowing, a walking/biking path, a wildlife refuge, children’s theme park, and even personalized gondola cruises.

A San Francisco Bay Area landmark since 1915, the Claremont Resort and Spa is nestled in the Oakland/Berkeley hills providing panoramic views.

The culinary experience is exciting in Berkeley and Oakland.  New, innovative restaurants abound in areas through the cities, and dozens of specialty food stores and a variety of farmer’s markets are available.

Cultural opportunities include the Oakland and Berkeley Art Museums, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Cal Performances, The Fox Theatre, The Paramount and Oakland First Friday Art Murmur.  These are just a few of the many cultural opportunities in the area!

For sports fans, Berkeley is “bear Territory,” home to the Cal Bears and within easy reach of a number of professional sports teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.  Hidden Oaks is within walking distance to Memorial Stadium.

The Bay Area is ranked one of the largest metropolitan area in the country.  It is among the world’s most innovative, competitive and diverse regional economies with highly educated workers.  Global influence in high-tech and biotech, proximity to the growing Pacific Rim economies, and world class universities.  The region’s natural beauty, diverse cultural attractions, professional sports teams, active business conventions, and leading global position in the wine industry attract more than 16 million visitors annually and make the Bay Area a treasured place to live.
